It’s rare for Disney and Lucasfilm to hand out information about Star Wars outside of a major event, but today, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed a few details about the untitled Han Solo film.
Iger was at a USC business and tech event today where he was asked a number of questions about his career, the future of Disney and, naturally, Star Wars. Iger couldn’t get into details, but according to Wall Street Journal reporter Ben Fritz, did release a few things we didn’t know.
Han Solo movie will follow him from age 18 through 24 and show him finding the Falcon, meeting Chewbacca, and getting his name, Iger says

While we knew that he would meet Chewbacca in the film, as previously confirmed by Iger, it’s interesting that it will explore the origin story of Han Solo’s name. Until now, people have assumed that his last name was given as a way to describe his character. He acts alone, which was the way he operated up until getting involved with the Rebellion.
The untitled Han Solo movie will be the second stand-alone anthology film in the Star Wars franchise, following the success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in December. It stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Woody Harrelson as a criminal and Han’s mentor, Beckett, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Michael Kenneth Williams will also be involved, but their roles have not been revealed.
The untitled Han Solo movie will be released on May 25, 2018.
