Street Fighter 5 guide

How is Street Fighter 5 doing a year down the line? Most folks are aware of its disastrous, bare-bones launch. Despite the addition of a full-length story mode, there still isn’t much of a single-player experience to be had. Nearly a year later, Street Fighter 5 appears only to be beginning to catch up with its own rushed development.

However, the heart of the product — the fighting game in which you and another human being punch and kick and throw things at each other until one of you falls over — is in perfectly fine shape. More than that, it’s superb. As a pure competitive fighting game, Street Fighter 5 is the best Street Fighter has been in years. Indeed, tournament numbers last year were at record heights.

Meanwhile, the game has been expanding since last December with the Season 2 update: a slow leak of new DLC characters and balance changes for competitive play. However, Street Fighter 5 is still effectively committed to the multiplayer experience above all and it looks like it’ll stay that way.
